Open Waste Compliance

The Open Waste Compliance Action created a pan-European waste licences framework to ensure speedy due diligence assessment of registered waste carriers and waste management companies. To this end, the Action aggregated and consolidated in one online platform, the public registers on waste management companies available in Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, France, Greece, Estonia, Luxembourg, Malta, Portugal, Republic of Ireland, The Netherlands, and United Kingdom.

The main outcomes of the Action are:

  • improved access of waste compliance public registers available at national level;
  • improved access of waste-related public registers within and between the countries covered by the Action;
  • improved user-friendliness and harmonisation of waste compliance data.

The Action was carried out in accordance with the Waste Framework Directive (2008/98/EC) that requires all EU Member States to ensure that waste management activities have the appropriate licences to operate (Article 23), whether it is for the transport or the treatment of waste.
